13 people died in a boat capsized carrying people returning from a wedding party in Nigeria

In Nigeria, 13 people died in the northwestern state of Sokoto when a boat carrying wedding guests capsized, a week after 150 people were missing in another similar accident, Nigerian officials said.

According to France 24, the boat that capsized last Friday was carrying 18 people, returning from a wedding party in the Shagari area.

For his part, Sokoto state government spokesman, Muhammad Bello, said that "13 people who were traveling from Dura to Jinja village were killed in the boat accident."

"All the passengers were members of one family and they were returning to their homes after attending the wedding," said local MP, Maedawa Kajiji, noting that "the boat was small, and loaded with 18 passengers, but only five survived, and they were rescued."
