Iraq and Sweden stress the importance of strengthening political and security cooperation

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein discussed with his Swedish counterpart "Ann Linde" ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially in the political and security aspects, in addition to discussing the latest political developments in Iraq and procedures for preparing for the upcoming elections.


During the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the Iraqi Foreign Minister’s participation in the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union’s foreign ministers, the Iraqi Foreign Minister stressed the importance of Sweden as it hosts a large Iraqi community, and the community plays an important role in Sweden’s social and political life, expressing his thanks to the Kingdom of Sweden For the security and military support it provided to Iraq during its war on terrorism within the framework of the international coalition to combat the terrorist organization ISIS.


A statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry indicated that the two ministers stressed the importance of strengthening political and security cooperation between Iraq and Sweden, especially since the latter currently chairs the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.


The two sides also agreed to increase joint coordination and facilitate the return of Iraqis wishing to return voluntarily to Iraq.
